Every day we hear something new! Be it the changing trends in technology or news on latest projects. Earlier in the day, there has been a lot of rumors reported, which say that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is looking forward to changing the mobile numbers to 13 digits from 10 digits(current). When asked for clarification from BSNL, the spokesperson denied such revelations and told us that the company is not planning to introduce any such 13 digit numbers for the customers.

The spokesperson of the company further clarified that the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will introduce the 13 digit protocol only for a machine to machine (M2M) communication. This M2M communication model is a setup- a form of communication- where the network devices exchange information and take actions among themselves without any manual assistance. The 13 digit number isn’t meant for the general public, so they don’t have to worry about the transition from 10 digit number to 13 digit number.

The above discussed M2M communication plays an important role in trending Internet of Things (IoT) stream and is generally used in fields like warehouse management, robotics, traffic control, supply chain management (SCM), logistics services, fleet management, remote control and the list goes on.

As per the reports, the 13 digit M2M numbering model will be introduced from July 1, 2018, and it is expected that from the month of July all M2M mobile communication will be allocated to 13 digit sets only. The reports further clarified that migration of existing 10-digit M2M numbers to 13 digits will begin in the month of October this year and is expected to end by December 31, 2018.
