Bhartiya Janta Party Karnataka President BS Yeddyurappa on Wednesday pitched the name of Former Congress MLA Dr Umesh Jadhav to contest from Kalaburagi Lok Sabha seat to challenge Grand Old Party’s Senior Leader Mallikarjun Kharge. Mallikarjun Kharge, a nine-time Lawmaker and two-term Parliamentarian have never tasted electoral defeat.

Speculations about him contesting from the Kalaburagi Parliamentary Seat were on height ever since he changed his political outfit and joined hands with Bhartiya Janta Party.

However, BS Yeddyurappa said that final call will be taken by party’s High Command.

Jadhav had joined the Bhartiya Janta Party last week. He was welcomed by Karnataka BJP President BS Yeddyurappa, former chief minister Jagadish Shettar and a host of other party leaders last week on March 6. He was also seen at the rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s at Kalaburagi, Karnataka.

Umesh Jadhav from the stage said that he is happy and proud of joining the Saffron Party. He also sought blessings from the people of Kalaburagi to elect Narendra Modi as PM again in 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.

Umesh Jadhav was reportedly upset with the “autocratic” style of Social Welfare Minister Priyank Kharge. Umesh Jadhav who is a part of the rebel group led by Ramesh Jarkiholi that threatened to topple the JD(S)Congress coalition government in the state. Jadhav currently represents Chincholi in Kalbyrgi district, a bastion of senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge.

Election Commission had on March 10 declared schedule for General Elections 2019. General Elections are slated for April-May this year that would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Counting of Votes and Results for the mega Battle of ballots will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting.

Congress and Janta Dal (Secular) is busy in stitching alliance while BJP intends to go alone in the Lok Sabha Polls. Karnataka has a total of 28 Lok Sabha Seats.

The BJP in 2014 General Elections had won 17 seats while Congress had won 9 seats in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections. JD(S) who has contested 25 Lok Sabha seats in 2014 General Elections won only two seats.

Voting in 28 seats of Karnataka will be spread in two phases on April 18 and April 23.
