In a bid to retain its erstwhile bastion of North-East, Congress President Rahul Gandhi is set to address a poll rally in Arunachal Pradesh‘s Itanagar on March 19. APPCC Chief Takam Sanjoy informing about the Gandhi’s visit said that he will address the public rally to galvanize support for parties candidates in a run-up to the General Elections and State Polls that are slated to be held simultaneously.

He added that the party will declare the names of the Candidates for the Polls in the before Gandhi’s visit. He added that Congress Chief will hold a rally at Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar on Tuesday, March 19.

Rahul Gandhi in a run-up to the general elections earlier this week toured South states – Tamil Nadu and Kerela to galvanize support for his party.

General Elections are slated for April-May this year that would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Election Commission had on Sunday declared schedule for General Elections 2019. Results for the crucial Lok Sabha Polls will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting.

Polling to the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh assembly and the two Lok Sabha seats in the state will be held on April 11, the first phase.

In 2014 State polls, The Congress had won 42 seats out of the total 60 but now has only five MLAs left as a large chunk of lawmakers left the party and joined other parties. While In 2014 General Elections, Both BJP and INC managed to bag one seat each.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had in 2014 won from Arunachal West reserved seat while Congress’ Ninong Ering won from Arunachal East Parliamentary seat.
