Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharam interacted with the officers of the Indian Navy at Naval Commander’s Conference in Delhi to discuss the security issues faced by the country in the wake of Sri Lanka attacks.

Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lamba, Navy chief-designate Vice Admiral Karambir Singh, and Director General coast guard Rajendra Singh were the chief present at the conference to discuss the issues on security.

Indian Coast Guard has been put on alert along the maritime border with Sri Lanka and the coastal regions of Goa to ensure the security of the nation from any fleeting terrorists.

Security in the southern states of the country has been strengthened particularly in churches and other religious places following the terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka. Security forces have been deployed in sensitive locations in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Goa. Additional security arrangements have been made for the religious sites in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.

Srilanka witnessed the worst terror attack in the history when seven suicide bombers of an Islamist Extremist group carried out devastating blasts in the churches and hotels of the country leaving 290 people dead and around 500 people wounded on Easter on Sunday. the country declared a state of emergency from Monday midnight after a crucial meeting of Maithripala Saxena, the National Security Council.
