Islamabad, May 30: Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has on Wednesday discussed the Afghanistan reconciliation and the border management with Afghan’s national security advisor Hamdullah Mohib.

In an official statement, the inter-services public relation said, “Mr. Hamdullah Mohib, National Security Adviser (NSA) of Afghanistan called on General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS). During the meeting, matters related to mutual interest, peace and stability in the region, Pak-Afghan border management and prospects for peace with particular emphasis on the reconciliation process in Afghanistan were discussed.”

A day after Mohib paid an official visit to Rawalpindi with a delegation comprised of interior minister Massoud Andarabi, along with other officials over the invitation of Bajwa, the statement was issued.

Afghan foreign secretary Sohail Mahmood reportedly had addressed a delegation-level meet in Rawalpindi. The visit precedes the likely visit by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to Islamabad.

According to Dawn news reports, Ghani was invited over a phone call by Prime Minister Imran Khan for a visit on May 5 to discuss bilateral economic cooperation, security and the ongoing peace efforts to put an end to the 18-year-long Afghan crisis.

Ghani has accepted the invitation of Khan for a visit, according to officials during which he would “hold comprehensive exchange of views on all issues of mutual interest”.

The latest major interaction was made under the Afghan-Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Stability summit, during which both the sides held discussions related to the repatriation of Afghan refugees from Islamabad.

The development has taken place in the midst of peace talk deadlock between the Taliban and the United States in Doha, the Qatari capital.
