AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday said that his party will ask for the Leader of Opposition post in Telangana State Assembly as AIMIM is now a second largest party replacing Congress in the House.

Talking to ANI, Hyderabad MP and AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi said his party will meet the Assembly Speaker to demand a Leader of Opposition [LoP] post in the Telangana Assembly.

‘We will request the speaker of Telangana Assembly to give AIMIM the post of leader of the opposition as we are the second largest party in the state. We have more numbers than Congress. Our party will meet the speaker and we expect that he will take positive action’, Owaisi said as quoted by ANI.

He further said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi has been given the post of Leader of Opposition despite being less than 10% of required numbers, BJP has just 3 MLAs in the national Capital in 70-member Assembly.

‘We will soon meet Assembly Speaker’, Asaduddin Owaisi added.

The development comes a day after 12 out of the 18 Congress MLA shifted to TRS in the Assembly with Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy accepting the merger recognized them all as TRS members.

Talking about the merger in the state, AIMIM Chief said there is nothing wrong in this since the law allows them to do so.

Asaduddin Owaisi said Congress should introspect what is wrong and the reason why people are leaving the party. He added, ‘Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh in during his rule took many MLAs and MPs of Jagan Mohan‘s YSRCP, Why was Congress silent then’?

Responding about what he feels about Andhra Pradesh CM decision of appointing 5 Deputies, Asaduddin Owaisi termed the move as wonderful.

He said, ‘YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken a right step and a wonderful move by appointing 5 Deputy CMs in his Cabinet. With this move, every caste and religion will get the representation. This a positive move and will send a positive message too.

With the merger episode in Telanaga, the state ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) tally in the assembly is now 103 MLAs in the 119-member Assembly. Congress is now left with 6 MLAs and is now no more a second largest party as Asaduddin Owaisi‘s AIMIM have 7 Legislators in the Telangana Assembly.
