NITI Aayog's CEO Amitabh Kant

Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog, expressed that WhatsApp, a platform for sending end-to-end encrypted messages to others, has over 400 million monthly active users in India.

Kant disclosed the figures through his tweet which reads, “Delighted to interact with Will Cathcart Global Head of WhatsApp & release the book “A Billion Opportunities” With a billion mobiles, lowest data costs , highest mobile data consumption, average age of 29 & almost 400 mln users the future of What’s App is obviously in India.”

The tweet comes after Kant met Will Cathcart Global Head of WhatsApp, during a book launch in New Delhi.
While, the last time WhatsApp officially announced its India user base, it claimed to have 200 Mn users. That was in early 2017, so the numbers have doubled since then.
WhatsApp was made by Jan Koum and Brian Acton in 2009. The company is headquartered in California. It is a freeware, cross-platform an end-to-end encrypted instant messaging application for smartphones.

The Facebook-owned platform has also announced that its payments services will be launch in India at the end of 2019.

While, other messaging platform in the similar graph comprises Telegram, Hike, Viber, WeChat, textPlus, Kik, Tango, LINE, Skype and Pinger.
