Actress Vidya Balan is often credited to change the perspective of the Hindi film industry towards female characters.

She recently shared a picture on her Instagram profile, to celebrate the 90th birth anniversary of human computer Shakuntala Devi.

Shakuntala Devi was an Indian writer and mental calculator with her name in The Guinness Book of World Record.

She had written several books on mathematics, puzzles as well as on homosexuality titled ‘The World of Homosexuals.’ She died on 21 April 2013.

Vidya is currently portraying Shakuntala Devi in her biopic film ‘Shakuntala Devi’, which is directed by Anu Menon and co-stars Sanya Malhotra.

For the preparation, Vidya met several people who knew Shakuntala Devi or were associated with her.

Produced by Vikram Malhotra under his banner Abundantia Entertainment, the film is slated to hit the silver screens in the summer of 2020.

Vidya’s last outing was ‘Mission Mangal’ where she played the role of an ISRO scientist juggling between her personal and professional life.

The film was based on the Mars Orbiter Mission and opened to mostly positive critical feedback and strong box-office result, becoming her highest grossing film to date.
