With the constant deterioration in the quality of education provided to the students in states including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Orissa and Bihar, the HRD minister has decided to go ahead and hire 1200 postgraduate and doctoral students who have freshly graduated from IITs and IISERs as faculties for these state’s government engineering colleges.

This initiative has been taken in sync with the Technical Education Quality Improvement Project (EQIP-III) helped by the World Bank as stated by the union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar. The sole motto of this project is to help the poorly educated students by uplifting the education in these backward states. These 1200 faculty members will be offered a contract of 3 years as per which they will be posted in 53institutes across 11 states. It was recorded that these institutes suffered from a setback of faculties with a deficiency of about 60%. With the number of faculty members improving in the educational institutions, it is certain that the quality of education provided in these remote institutes will improve as a result. It has been roughly calculated that the estimated expenditure in this initiative is going to be about Rs. 375 Crore.

The ministry has received applications from about 5000 freshly graduated M.Tech graduates and post-doctoral candidates. All of them have also joined the institutes in order to do the greater good for the society. Out of all the states, the maximum number of faculty members have been appointed in the state of Rajasthan according to the data provided by the ministry being 301. Bihar follows closely with 32 faculty members appointed for the state’s Gaya Engineering College. Mazaffarpur comes on the third place in the list with 27 faculty members appointed to the state.
