Joining the EVM row, Indian National Congress today said that the election commission should probe into the allegations made by some parties. According to congress, a fair investigation should take place, so that voters trust does not get shattered and that their belief in democracy remains intact.

Speaking to the media, Congress spokesperson Sushmita Dev said that if a party has doubt over the working and efficiency of EVMs, then it is the duty of election commission to address that issue by holding a probe. She added that the prime responsibility of EC is to make voters trust that their votes are reaching to the right person.

She further added that India is the largest democracy in the world and the country takes pride in that. Also, there should not be a blot on the democracy of the country.

While asked about whether Congress will be ready for an investigation in Punjab where Congress has won clear majority and AAP has alleged for EVM tempering, she added that her party does not fear any investigation and that it believes in the mandate it has got.

BSP was the first party to speak about possible EVM tempering in the recent assembly polls, which was later joined by AAP who alleged tempering in the Punjab elections. However, election commission rubbished the charges.

Talking further on the issue, she supported a fair use of technology in order to maintain smooth election process and insisted on the fact that the voters should not lose their trust from democracy and voting process. According to her, congress will never support illegal practices like booth capturing and tempering EVMs and that it will never be an obstacle in any inquiry related to the same.
