Two fully electric cars by the Geman carmaker within a month! Well, that might help BMW to achieve its preplanned target of introducing 25 electric cars by 2025 in no time. Earlier, it was the iX SUV that was presented to the people concerned and now the company is here with the new BMW i4 all-electric sedan.

Call it a smart move as it will be competing brands such as Tesla and Polestar that hold most of the electric market share globally. Also, not to forget, Germans are too good when it comes to cars. Does this electric sedan make sense? Here are the details.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • BMW has revealed the all-new BMW i4 electric sedan globally.
  • The upcoming BMW i4 will be competing against the likes of the Tesla Model 3.
  • It will get a performance model called the i4 M as a top-end variant.

BMW i4

Criticise BMW as much as you want for the latest kidney grille design. But let us face the truth that BMW cars are the most flawless ones in terms of design and aerodynamics. Just after witnessing the unveiling of the fully electric iX SUV, one can also visualise the design language BMW will be using on their upcoming electric cars. Well, the German carmaker did exactly the same with the all-new i4.

Interestingly, it is the performance models that excite car enthusiasts the most. And BMW is one of those carmakers that believes in turning dreams into reality. But for that, BMW i4 should get a top-spec i4 M variant. Isn’t it? It will and that’s confirmed! Apart from this, it will get an electric motor that is capable of producing a massive 520HP that will make this electric sedan do a 0-100kmph sprint in just 4 seconds.

The top speed on the other hand seems electronically limited at 200kmph. Even after such high-end performance numbers, BMW i4 is expected to return a range of somewhere around 590kmph as a result of the WLTP cycle.

Interior although is expected to remain similar to what we see on the regular 4 Series available at the global market. However, BMW has not revealed many details regarding the all-new i4 yet. Stay tuned for further updates. Until then feast your eyes with the all-new electric sedan.

Rivals

Electric cars and Tesla go hand in hand. Call it hype but this is a fact that nobody can deny. Globally, the 2021 BMW i4 will compete against the likes of Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2.

First thing first is still the infrastructure. There is no point in owning an electric car if it is not a sustainable option at this very moment. However, these car giants are trying hard enough to develop such an ecosystem that will boost the sales of their vehicles to a great extent. That’s true for the all-new Tesla Model 3.

With a slow but steadily growing infrastructure, the all-new Model 3 sedan feels practical as well as exclusive. Recently, Tesla has entered the Indian market and the American carmaker feels promising in what they deliver. Surprisingly, Model 3 will be arriving in India via the CBU route and therefore we wish to see the all-new BMW i4 as well.
