Pearson has announced the appointment of Vikas Singh as the new Managing Director of the company in India. He was previously heading Higher Education and Test Preparation for Pearson.

He will take over the responsibilities this month from Deepak Mehrotra. As per the company, Deepak is moving on to pursue his interests in other sectors.

Commenting on his appointment, Vikas Singh said:

I am excited and honoured to take on this new role. There is a huge opportunity for us as a company to contribute to the emerging and evolving Indian education landscape and provide access to better quality education to the learners. Our aim is to take world class global products and services from our lines of business and other geographies and bring them to India to meet the growing need for high-quality learning resources. I look forward to further strengthen our business and partner with our stakeholders to lead Pearson’s growth story.

Pearson’s president of growth market, Giovanni Giovannelli, said:

With his incredible strong knowledge and experience in managing various portfolios across marketing, operations and business management, we are confident that he will contribute significantly to Pearson India’s renewed strategy on transforming millions of lives through meaningful and innovative learning.

Vikas Singh has around 25 years of experience and has worked with established organisations like Lakme, Gillette, Hutch and Airtel. Prior to joining Pearson, he was the MD of Kimberly Clark and was responsible for heading their Indian operations.

He holds a graduate degree in Chemistry from St. Stephens College, University of Delhi and a Post-Graduate degree in Management from Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi.

Earlier this year, a few months ago, Pearson sold its online tutoring provider Tutorvista and e-learning content company Edurite for an undisclosed amount to Byju’s Learning — an ed-tech start-up in India.
