According to Delhi University’s Vice-Chancellor PC Joshi, it is unlikely that the Common Entrance Test for central universities (CUCET) can be held this year. Due to the current situations of COVID-19 and the chances of upcoming third wave, the conduction of exam is not possible any soon.

The Delhi University is now planning to hold admissions on the basis of “merit” criteria. The university will follow CBSE’s formula to declare the merit cut-offs. This is best possible option in larger interest of the students as no entrance exams could be held, Said the Vice-chancellor.

DU’s cutoff scores for admission are strictly based on the scores of CUCET and Class 12 marks, but since the government has decided to cancel class 12 board exams thus now the admissions of students will completely depend on the scores granted to them by the CBSE’s evaluation method.

Earlier, The university also proposed an alternate option to the UGC for conducting CET. DU said that 50 percent weightage can be given to average of Class 12 marks and the rest 50 percent to the scores of CUCET. But this option could not be implemented now as well.

When asked about the consideration of entrance exams, Prof. PC Joshi said that we are commited to hold CUCET exam whenever it happens. But currently it is difficult to organize a national-level exams. We are completely unaware about the situation in different states and cities.

He added that the university is considering to defer this exam. Rather then this, the university will hold meetings to plan admissions as soon as the CBSE announces its formula for assessment and declares the result. The admission process is pan-india and we have to prepare accordingly.

The admission process of DU can be delayed keeping in the view that State boards will also take time to declare result apart from CBSE. This process could go upto August and thus the varsity has to consider this circumstances and devise a timeline best suitable for students.
