She has dazzled the silver screen ever since, Titanic made her a star. Powerful performances, stellar filmography and inimitable charm has catapulted her into one of the leading actors of Hollywood. She is none other than, Kate Winslet and 15th September is going to be special day for her. She’ll receive the Tribute Actor Award at the 2020 TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival).

Her latest film ‘Ammonite’ will also screen at the virtual festival. Directed by Francis Lee, the award will be given to her after the film’s screening. TIFF shared this news via Twitter. They tweeted :

Winslet plays a fossil hunter in the film, known as Mary Anning. Saoirse Ronan stars alongside her.

Joana Vicente, executive director and co-head of the festival, talked about Kate winning the award and said :

“Kate’s brilliant and compelling onscreen presence continues to captivate, entertain and inspire audiences and actors alike.”

While, last year the festival had honoured the likes of Meryl Streep, Taika Waititi, Mati Diop, and Joaquin Phoenix.

In the festival’s film lineup are several films such as Another Round, Bruised, Concrete Cowboys, Fauna, Good Joe Bell, Spring Blossom and True Mothers.

Further, the organizers will unveil the names of the other TIFF Tribute Award winners, in coming weeks. The festival will be held from 10 to 19 September, this time it will be conducted virtually because of the coronavirus. Though, during the first five days, it plans to screen 50 films in physical theatres. Social-distancing measures will be put in place for it.

While the physical screening in states depend upon the permission from the respective health authorities, the festival is giving an option for the audience to opt drive-insf for exploring the cinema on show.

The virtual screenings will help the festival reach people beyond Toronto.
