Irrfan Khan to be honoured at Dubai film festival!

Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan is all set to be honored at the 14th edition of Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) later in December for all his incredible body of work. The film festival will take place from December 6 to December 13.

The Dubai International Film Festival will open up with the three Honorary Awards just to celebrate the significant achievements and the contribution to the film industry of the individuals. The actor, Irrfan Khan will be the significant figure in the Indian film and the television since the early 1990’s. Irrfan has done an incredible body of work for more than 80 movies in India as well as he has worked in the British films and Hollywood movies also.

He will be honored for his work which he has done in the movies like ‘The Namesake’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, ‘The Lunchbox’, and ‘Life of Pi’. Moreover, his movie ‘The Song of Scorpions’ will also be screened at the Dubai International Film Festival 2017. The movie ‘The  Last Jedi’ will be closing the festival before launching in the Middle East. While the movie ‘Hostiles’, which was directed by Scott Cooper is slated to kick off the film extravaganza.

The film festival will be hosted at the Madinat Jumeirah and will be screen in a total of 140 movies and that is from the 51 countries spanning features, which will include short movies, non-fiction, including 50 world and international premieres.

The movie will be crafted in more than 38 languages, populate DIFF’s Arab and Emirati competitions and its out-of-competition and there will be a different segment which will be dedicated to the children, the Arab world, Virtual Reality and the cinema from all around the globe.

The Festival will also be feting the prominent Egyptian screenwriters Wahid Hamed with a lifetime achievement award and that will be given during the opening ceremony of the film festival. Wahid Hamed’s long list of the Egyptians includes the movies and the television show like ‘The Yacoubian Building’, which is directed by his son, Marwan Hamed and that have tackled the taboo such as homosexuality and traveled widely.

Besides this, there will be some other movies which will also be showcased here which will include James Franco’s ‘The Disaster Artist’, ‘ Ace The Shape of Water’, ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri’, and Alexander Payne’s ‘Downsizing’.

Half of the Arabic competition is made up of the works of the female directors which includes ‘The Man Behind the Microphone’ from the British-Tunisian director Claire Belhassine and that is about her grandfather, the popular Tunisian singer and a composer Hedi Jouini, ‘Cactus Flower’. An Egyptian director Hala Elkoussy’s female director empowerment road movie and Tunisian first-timer Sarra Abidi’s illegal immigration drama. An Indian actor like Sonam Kapoor and Shabana Azmi will also be attending the film festival.
