Rakul Preet Singh is currently riding high on the success of her latest Bollywood film De De Pyaar De which has crossed Rs 100 crore. The actress is now all set for her next release Marjaavaan.

Rakul has been very selective about Hindi films. While she has done a number of Tamil and Telugu films, Marjaavaan is her fourth film after her debut film Yaariyan in 2014.

While her song Haiya Ho in her upcoming film has garnered a lot of attention, speculations were being made if she has a small role or only a special appearance in the film. The super success of her last film and the reports of her supporting role in her next film seemed contradictory to many.

The actress recently opened up about the length of her role in Marjaavaan. Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Rakul said, “Milap Zaveri, the director sold it to me saying, “This is my Rekha of Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, my Chandramukhi of Devdas.” Aarzoo is a tawaif of the ’90s with nazaaqat and shayari. I’ve grown up on characters like her but haven’t seen them lately.”

Contrasting the character of her upcoming film with the charcter she played in her last film, she said, “Arzoo has raw sex appeal as opposed to De De Pyaar De’s girl-next-door Ayesha. Plus, there are Milap’s bhaari bharkam dialogues. As for screen time, Rekhaji didn’t have a full-length role, neither did Tabu in Jeet. Even Chandramukhi was a supporting role. Yet, they are all remembered. I’d rather see a role for what it is than compare it with what it is not.”

When asked about Tara Sutaria’s role, the lead role in the film, Rakul admitted she would have done it if she was offered. “Both roles are great and different. If offered Zoya’s role, I’d have done it.”

Directed by Milaap Zaveri, Marjaavaan stars Riteish Deshmukh, Sidharth Malhotra,Tara Sutaria, Rakul Preet Singh and is slated to release on 15 November.
