For a fact of life – a biological way of living – women have been ridiculed, suppressed, and embarassed for over centuries. Sadly, this problem does not limit itself to modern India but stretches across numerous countries across the world.
When the trailer of ‘Padman’ released, with the baritone of Amitabh Bachchan lifting the voiceover to another level, there was a new topic of debate/discussion in all households. People thought it was funny, some others thought it was weird for Akshay Kumar to try to wear a pad.
Some understood the point behind the film. Awareness.
The stars in showbizz have taken up the ‘Padman Challenge’ not only to promote the upcoming R. Balki film but also, to tell the world how important ‘Periods’ is to be spoken about.
Here are a few stars who took to their social media platforms, and shared a picture of themselves with a pad.
Periods are absolutely natural. Menstrual health is important and if a woman is not getting her periods then that is when it is unhealthy for her. Respect women and don't believe in the myths. Menstrual hygeine is essential and I hope this movie helps in bringing about a major change. #PadManChallenge :') @ayushmannk
We hope that after this film, the world and especially our country looks at ‘Periods’ more normally and practically.
Padman, starring Sonam Kapoor, Akshay Kumar & Radhika Apte in lead roles, releases on 9th February.
