Social media is a power in some ways and with power come responsibility. We all are aware of the situation that Assam is facing right now. In one of the worst floods, almost 40lakh people’s houses have been damaged and left them with an irreparable loss.
The news has finally made to mainstream media but it took some time, which made people from North-East part of India believe that they are not considered as citizens of India. The fact that Kerala floods were so much in news and everybody was ready to help through Paytm and other means, makes others believe that Assam floods are not that serious a case.
The YouTubers have used the strongest tools at their disposal and tried to do their bit by asking people to donate for the victims of Assam floods. While some of them have posted stories on Instagram, like MostlySane aka Prajakta Koli, CarryMinati did 2 live streams on his channel CarryIsLive, both for victims of Assam floods, whereas Mumbikar Nikhil has mentioned this in his vlog of July 17, 2019. Mumbikar Nikhil states that he has received a mail stating that people from North-East India don’t feel one with the rest of the country.
The YouTubers have tried doing their bits by spreading awareness and have behaved rationally, instead of neglecting the concerns of their fans and viewers.
