What happens when, two talented artists come together to create something. Well, we can’t predict the end result but something interesting can happen. Two such powerful artists in Hollywood are collaborating to create a feature film for Netflix. These two gentleman are actor, Leonardo Dicaprio and director, Barry Jenkins. Both of them are coming together to adapt the documentary film, Virunga into a feature film.

While, Jenkins will pen the script and direct the film, Dicaprio through his company, Appian Way is producing the project. A source from ‘Variety’, brings this fresh piece of news.

The documentary film, Virunga was based on the fight to protect the last mountain gorillas, living in the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Director, Orlando von Einsiedel had directed it. In the film, the political tension and biodiversity of the place was also discovered. It released on Netflix in 2014 and went on to receive an Oscar nomination in 2015.

Dicaprio and Jenkins adaptation will include Von Einsiedel as the executive producer while other producers will be Jennifer Davisson and Phillip Watson of Appian Way and Joanna Natasegara of Violet Films.

Barry Jenkins last project as a director was an adaptation of James Baldwin’s novel ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’, which released in 2018 to resounding reviews. The film fetched a Best Supporting Actress Award for Regina King. While, His 2016 film ‘Moonlight’, won Oscar for best film and an award for Jenkins for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Currently, Jenkins is creating an historical fictional drama series ‘The Underground Railroad’, for Amazon Prime’. On the other hand, Leonardo Dicaprio will star in Martin Scorsese’s next film ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’ along with legend Robert De Niro.
