Starting with serials on television and making her Bollywood debut with critically and commercially successful Vicky Donor, Yami Gautam has come a long a way. After working in this year’s third highest grossing film Uri: The Surgical Strike, the actress is all set for her next film Bala where she plays a TikTok star.

During  a recent interview Yami spoke about her preparation for the role. She revealed that she made an account on the social media app to understand her character. “She is a TikTok star and she loves TikTok. But it was a revelation for me to see that this virtual world is so real. I have seen TikTok videos and I follow them. I have a secret account and that is how I prepared for the role,” she said.

Talking about her experience on the app and her impression of real TikTok stars, she said, “I saw the kind of effort these people put up in the way they dress up and emote. They are stars. When I started making my videos I thought why I am not looking so funny the way she is. It is the same thing that I am doing, it is because they are stars and because of the conviction they have in what they do. I have to not think like Yami. I have to be Pari (her charcter in the film) and believe it literally and do it.”

Bala is a satirical comedy that deals with the subject of premature balding and the societal pressure that comes with it. The film stars Ayushmann Khurran, Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam in the lead roles. Javed Jaffrey, Seema Pahwa and Saurabh Shukla appear in supporting roles.

Directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan, the film releases on the 8th of November with select previews on the 7th of November.
