Half-Day holiday for central govt employees to celebrate Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha

The Central Government has announced a half-day closing till 2:30 pm on January 22nd, 2024, for all central government offices, institutions, and industrial establishments across India. It is a gesture marking the historical significance of Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha. This decision aims to enable employees to participate in the celebrations associated with the ceremony.

The order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) states that the Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha, signifying the installation of the idol of Lord Ram at the Ayodhya temple, will be celebrated on January 22nd across the nation. Recognizing the importance of this event for a large section of the population, the government has chosen to grant a half-day break to its employees, allowing them to join in the festivities.

“To enable employees to participate in the celebrations, it has been decided that all Central Government Offices, Central Institutions and Central Industrial Establishments throughout India will be closed for half day till 1430 hours on 22nd January, 2024,” the DoPT order reads.

This official directive ensures that a significant portion of the central government workforce, estimated to be several million strong, will have the opportunity to observe and engage in the celebrations surrounding the Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha. This move is likely to be welcomed by many employees, particularly those with personal connections to the event or its cultural significance.

While the decision is primarily focused on central government establishments, the DoPT also advises all ministries and departments to share the information with relevant entities under their purview. This could potentially extend the reach of the half-day closing to a wider range of public sector organizations and institutions.

The upcoming Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha marks a culmination of a long and complex legal and social journey for many in India. The construction of the temple at Ayodhya has held immense religious and cultural significance for millions, and the event is expected to draw widespread participation and celebration across the nation.
