A month after Andhra Pradesh government exclusively banned online gambling and betting in Andhra Pradesh by amending the legislation, the AP govt. led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has written a letter to Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad regarding ban on such websites and applications.

AP govt. had amended AP Gaming Act 1974 to make online gambling and betting, a punishable offence. It notified the said Act in September, 2020.

In the letter written by the CM, Reddy has requested Law Minister to direct all the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block all the online gambling, gaming and betting websites and mobile applications in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The AP CM attached a list of 132 websites in the letter that he wanted to take action against.

He was of the opinion that blocking the websites can help cater the purpose of the legislation and prevent youth from getting addicted to gambling.
