Facebook Messenger

Facebook added a feature on Messenger on Tuesday that lets users take back their messages. The feature lets users unsend their messages within a 10-minute window, leading back a note that informs others that the remark was removed.

“Have you ever accidentally sent a message to the wrong group of friends, mistyped something, or simply wanted to remove a message in a chat?” Facebook asked rhetorically.

“You’re not the only one! Starting today, we are launching a feature where you can easily remove your message on Messenger.”

The Messenger app is used by more than a billion people worldwide and is owned by Facebook.

Last year it was revealed that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had the authority to unsend his messages on Messenger, which caused pressure to make the feature available to all.

In order to remove a message, users will have to tap on the message and select the option to  “Remove for Everyone”. The removed message will be replaced with a text alerting everyone in the chat the message was removed. The option is only valid for 10 minutes after sending a message.

The new feature will be available on both Android and iOS devices, according to Facebook.

Notably, Facebook had introduced a similar feature to the WhatsApp messenger last year that let users delete their messages within 7 minutes of sending.

Instagram, too, has an option that lets users unsend their messages.

In terms of features, Instagram is planning to introduce a new feature that will let users link multiple accounts in a single login. The photo-sharing app is reportedly working on a ‘main account’ feature that would help advance users access multiple accounts through a single login.

Recently, Mark Zuckerberg has also revealed plans of merging WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger into a single platform. The merge, however, will not come till 2020.
