TN-rainsIMD has forecast moderate to heavy and very heavy rainfall in Chennai and the isolated areas in Tamil Nadu

The Indian Meteorological Department(IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy and very heavy rainfall in Chennai and the isolated areas in Tamil Nadu.

According to the weather bulletin released by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai on Tuesday night, the low-pressure area is likely to persist and concentrate into a depression by Wednesday night. This will be marked by isolated heavy to very heavy rains over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

It will be crucial for Chennai and its surrounding areas till Thursday since this might be the only chance where these areas receive their share of rainfall in November. However, according to independent weather bloggers, this is good news since Chennai is staring at a possible water crisis since the reservoirs are running dry. This rainfall predicted by the IMD might be helpful in tiding over the crisis and filling the gap of deficit of rainfall this monsoon season.

Weather blogger Tamil Nadu Weatherman posted on his Facebook page that heavy to very heavy rains can be expected in Cuddalore, Puducherry, Villupuram, Kanchipuram, Chennai and Tiruvallur. He also requested people to not believe in rumours about another cyclone in TN delta regions. “Delta and South TN will not get much rains from this Depression in the next two days. Maybe some rains on 23rd. But nothing threatening. So, people in Delta need not fear for further severe rains or for a rumors of a Cyclone,” he wrote.

Cyclone Gaja intensified into a cyclone from a deep depression in Bay of Bengal and made landfall in the wee hours of November 16. It has wreaked havoc in the delta districts in Tamil Nadu including Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai and Tiruvarur. Normal life was brought to a grinding halt with over 2.5 lakh people displaced from their houses and crops were destroyed completely.
