At the ground-breaking ceremony of Kartarpur corridor in Pakistan, Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday, praised Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and thanked him for ending 70-year-old waiting period for Sikh pilgrims.

Sidhu said, “Mera yaar, dildaar, Imran Khan jive (may my friend Imran Khan thrive, live). He has been a good friend and delivered his promise.”

Sidhu said, whenever history will be retold about the Kartarpur Sahib corridor, Khan’s name will be written on the very first page of the history.

He has asserted that the beginning of the Kartarpur corridor will help in promoting peace between India and Pakistan and will help in demolishing the war of the two countries.

Sidhu has earlier called Khan “an angel” for giving a green signal to the construction of Kartarpur corridor, which has been awaiting by Indian Sikhs for a long time.

Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “This was a long-standing demand of the Sikh community.  I express gratitude to Pakistan government.”

Punjab minister Amarinder Singh has rejected the invitation by Pakistan to attend Kartarpur corridor ceremony. He even asked Sidhu to reconsider his decision of attending the ceremony. Singh said, “Sidhu told me he had already committed himself to going. When I informed him of the stand I had taken on the issue, he said it was his personal visit but he would get back to me. But I did not hear from him.”

Imran Khan has today laid foundation stones at Kartarpur corridor, which connects Pakistan’s gurudwara Darbad Sahib to India’s Dera Baba Nanak gurudwara in Gurdaspur district.
