Vinai Kumar Saxena takes oath as 22nd Lieutenant Governor of Delhi

Vinai Kumar Saxena took oath as Lieutenant Governor of Delhi on Thursday. Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Vipin Sanghi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Saxena at a function organised at Raj Niwas. 

Saxena has become 22nd Lieutenant Governor of Delhi after his predecessor Anil Baijal resigned from the position citing personal reasons.

A press communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan released on Monday reads, “The President of India has accepted the resignation of Shri Anil Baijal as Lt. Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi. The President of India has been pleased to appoint Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena to be the Lt. Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”

Speaking to the media, Saxena said, “he would work as the Local Guardian for every citizen of Delhi rather than the Lieutenant Governor.” He also said, “I will be visible more on roads than at Raj Niwas”. 

Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony he also said while referring to the recent protests and violent clashes in the city and urged the people to live in peace and harmony. He further added that with the support of the Delhi Government, Centre and with the cooperation of the people, he will work to get rid of traffic jams and make Delhi free of all pollution. People working in the unorganized sector will be trained.

Saxena studied at Kanpur University and started his career with the JK Group in Rajasthan as an assistant officer, working at its white cement plant. Later, he took the post of general manager. After that he also became the CEO and Director of the Port Project.

During his tenure at the KVIC, Khadi production increased by 115 percent in 2019-20, compared to 2015-16, when he assumed the position, while production of khadi grew by 179 percent in the same period, according to KVIC’s website.
