In a significant development, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rebel MLA Colonel Devinder Sehrawat on Monday joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) days after BJP claimed that 14 LAs want to turncoat. Sehrawat, a retired Colonel, joined Bharatiya Janata Party in presence of Union Minister Vijay Goel and BJP Delhi Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta.

Sehrawat had in 2015 won from Bijwasan assembly seat with a margin of over 20,000 votes. He lately had become a strong critic of the party and was suspended from the party in 2016 citing anti-party activities.

He had written to AAP National Chief Arvind Kejriwal alleging there are leaders in the party in Punjab that are exploiting women in return for tickets.

His exit from the party came days after its MLA from Gandhi Nagar Anil Bajpai on May 3 joined Bharatiya Janata Party. Speaking to media on the occasion, Anil Bajpai said that he is hurt by lack of respect and slammed party for distracting from the original path.

Bajpai had in 2015 Delhi State polls defeated BJP’s Jitendra with a margin of around 7,000 votes.

“Mr Modi, would you topple the government in the state of every opposition party by buying MLA? Is this the definition of your democracy? And where does it bring so much money to the MLA buy? You guys have tried to buy our MLA many times in advance. Buying the AAP MLAs is not easy”, said AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal on Friday morning in a tweet.

Aam Aadmi Party in the national capital is contesting on all seven seats. In a run-up to the polls 2019, the party has named Atishi Marlena from Delhi East, Raghav Chaddha from Delhi South, among others for the mega battle of ballots.
