Days after facing crushing defeat in the recently held national polls, Samajwadi Party Leader and Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said that his party will continue to fight for social justice along with Bahujan Samajwadi Party.

Speaking in a public address in UP’s Azamgarh, Yadav said, ‘Samajwadi Party and Mayawati ji’s BSP will continue to fight for social justice. Akhilesh Yadav was on his first visit to his Lok Sabha constituency after poll results. He thanked voters for electing him in the recently held national polls.

Defending the poor show of the Grand Alliance, Samajwadi Party Leader, and Azamgarh MP Akhilesh Yadav said the polls this time was of a different kind, which he could not understand. The fight was between a Cycle and a Ferrari, and ultimately Ferrari wins.

Akhilesh Yadav’s comment about the Mahagathbandan comes hours after BSP chief Mayawati in a party meeting in the national capital told partner leaders that party’s poor show in the polls was because of the alliance with the SP.

Reportedly, she has also asked the party workers to gear up for state polls in the state on their own, raising doubts over the future of the alliance.

She reportedly told party workers not to depend on the coalition to seek votes and should prepare for the State polls slated for 2022.

However, she said, ‘Ever since SP-BSP coalition took place, SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav & his wife Dimple Yadav have given me a lot of respect. I also forgot all our differences in the interest of the nation, and gave them respect. Our relation is n’t only for politics, it’ll continue forever’.

While Speaking on the issue, Samajwadi Party Spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said the party has not yet received any official communication from BSP over the future of Mahagathbandhan in the alliance.

It should be noted that BSP-SP Alliance faced a crushing defeat in the state in the recently held national polls. Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party, on May 23 scripted history by bagging 303 seats on its own in the recently concluded national polls. Along with its allies, it took its tally to 352 Lok Sabha Seats out of 542 Seats were national polls held in April-May in seven phases.

In Uttar Pradesh, BJP bagged 62 seats and with its ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) it took its tally to 64 seats out of the 80 Lok Sabha Seat. While Mahagathbandhan bagged 15 seats – BSP 10 and SP 5 – while Congress only managed to retain its bastion Rae Bareli.
