Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday appointed Chandrakant Patil as the new Maharashtra Chief of the party months before the State Polls. Chandrakant Patil, a Cabinet Minister in Devendra Fadnavis government will now lead the party in Maharashtra State Polls.

Patil has replaced Raosaheb Patil Danve who has earlier in the day stepped down from the State Top Post. The reshuffling in State Top Brass comes ahead of the State Assembly Elections slated for October-November later this year.

Sources claimed that BJP has a ‘one-person, one-post’ policy, wherein a minister cannot be a state president at the same time. Former Maharashtra President Danve has been inducted his Narendra Modi’s Cabinet as Minister of State (MoS) of Consumer Affairs.

Danve also served as an MoS in Narendra Modi’s previous government for a year from 2014 to 2015. However, Danve was appointed as Maharashtra Chief after then Chief Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Maharashtra Chief Minister after the party stormed back to power in the year 2014.

Danve, five-time parliamentarian, was born on March 18, 1955, and served at a different position in the Bharatiya Janata Party. Political Pundits have maintained that appointing Danve as the chief of party in the state and making Fadnavis the chief minister, the party had managed to balance the crucial caste factor in the state as Danve is a Maratha and Fadnavis is a Brahmin.

Talking about the new State Chief Chandrakant Patil, he joined BJP in the year 2004 and was appointed as the Vice President of the party in 2013. Patil was sent to Maharashtra Legislative Council in the year 2014 and was later in the Cabinet.

He has been holding the Cabinet Minister office since July 2016 and handling the revenue, relief & rehabilitation and Public Works department.

In the meantime, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also appointed Mangal Prabhat Lodha appointed as the President of Mumbai Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In the national polls, Bharatiya Janata Party along with its ally Shiv Sena swept Maharashtra by bagging 41 seats out of the total 48 Lok Sabha Seats on the state. Both Shiv Sena and BJP have already announced their poll tie-up for Maharashtra Assembly Polls.
