In Chhattisgarh, scrutiny of nominations for the first phase of assembly elections will take place today. The last day for filing of nomination papers for the first phase was yesterday.

A total of 421 nomination papers had been filed by more than 250 candidates till the last day of filing the nomination for 18 constituencies which are going to poll in the first phase in Chhattisgarh. Three hundred and twenty-three nominations were filed by the candidates on the last day itself.

A maximum of 45 nominations have been filed from Rajnandgaon constituency alone. The 18 assembly seats consists of 12 seats of all seven districts of Maoist affected Bastar division and 6 constituencies of Rajnandgaon district.

The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers for the first phase is October 26. The notification for the elections in the rest of the 72 constituencies in the second phase is also dated October 26. Chhattisgarh has 90 constituencies where assembly elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on November 12 and 20. The first phase of the election is to be conducted in 18 constituencies which are mostly naxal-affected areas.
