Congress President Rahul Gandhi makes a major rejigging in the party by replacing Motilal Vora from the treasurer post and appointing him as the AICC general secretary (administration). Ahmed Patel has been appointed as the new treasurer of the grand old party, reported PTI.

Ahmed Patel had earlier served as the political secretary of former party supremo Sonia Gandhi. He had handled the office of AICC treasurer from 1996 to 2000.

Vohra’s declining health condition and party’s cash deficit led to the appointment of Patel as the new in charge of the coffers.

AICC General Secretary Ashok Gehlot said in a statement,”The party appreciates the hard work and contribution of Motilal Vora as treasurer of the party”, reported PTI.

Congress has to deal with the cash crisis, while BJP is busy spending on its election campaigning in the states due for Assembly polls later this year, reported The New Indian Express.

Many other posts have been reshuffled in the party. Former Union minister Anand Sharma has been appointed as the chairperson of the party’s Foreign Affairs Department; the post was earlier held by Karan Singh, reported PTI.

PTI reported that former Goa Congress President Luizinho Falerio has been appointed as the new General Secretary in-charge of Northeast states, except Assam. Luizinho has replaced CP Joshi, who held the post earlier.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar was made a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee(CWC)–apex decision-making body of Congress, said PTI report. The appointment can be seen as Congress’ commitment towards women reservation by increasing women members inside the top decision-making body.
