Gopalkrishna Gandhi was selected as the candidate by the opposition parties for the Vice-Presidential Elections due on 5 Aug. 18 opposition parties had unanimously suggested his name in the meeting held by Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi on 11 July. The last date to file the nominations is 18 July, elections will be held on 5 Aug and the results will be announced on the same day itself.

Gopal Krishna Gandi after being nominated has begun with his elections campaign. He met the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M Karunanidhi in Chennai on Wednesday. Gandhi met Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence in the presence of DMK working president MK Stalin and his sister and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi.

The leaders held a discussion on the Vice-Presidential Polls during the meeting and MK Stalin extended his support to Gandhi on behalf of the DMK party saying that he was the candidate of the secular parties had DMK will vote for him
