5G technology

To launch 5G technology in India, Huawei is in talks with Indian telecom operators to help them evolve from 4G networks and opt 5G technology. The gear vendor is discussing standard trials for the 5G technology with Indian telecom operators by next year.

Radhey Shyam Sarda, Senior Solutions Director, Huawei Telecommunications said, “4G and 4G evolution is what is getting them [telcos] revenue today and for future, they need to prepare for 5G. We have also been doing some technology and solution workshop with them to guide them how to evolve their network and prepare for 5G…5G will happen in line with the global timeline”. He added that some services that 5G will power are already being introduced in the market through LTE-A technology.

Huawei’s director, marketing and integrated solutions, Chandan Kumar said that the country is very much in line with the global roadmap. “Once we have agreements with the stakeholders to do some trials in India, I think maybe next year we can see some trials happening”. While he added that pre-standard trials can happen anytime.

Fifth-generation (5G) technology is expected to be used for a host of services, such as machine-to-machine communication, Internet of Things and even to connect smart cities. The government has started working to introduce 5G technology in India.

The government has started working to introduce 5G technology in India. The telecom department has recently asked the telecom operators to suggest the starting price for 5G airwaves. The department wrote to the TRAI to set the reserve price for airwaves in the 4G bands of 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2300 MHz and 2500 MHz, and for spectrum in the 3400 MHz to 3600 MHz bands that are used for 5G services.

While according to the Huawei’s Kumar, for 5G the spectrum in the bands like 1800 and 900 MHz can also be used. The company is targeting all spectrum access including millimeter wave band and spectrum above 3GHz and sub-3 GHz band, and every band will have a different role in the networks.

The company’s executives want that the backhaul needs to be strengthened before the introduction of 5G in India, besides making network digitized with the introduction of the cloud. While, according to them, the implementation of 5G will require engagement with different stakeholders from other industries which were earlier not a part of the eco-system.
