As the political equations in Tamil Nadu are at stake with the ruling AIADMK in a position to collapse anytime, the opposition party DMK is having high hopes.

People of Tamil Nadu were celebrating the beginning of the golden period in the political history of the state after both the EPS and OPS faction announced a merger on 21 Aug. But the celebration could not be long lived as 19 MLAs supporting the Dhinakaran faction wrote a letter to the Governor of Tamil Nadu declaring a no confidence against the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. Palaniswamy demanding for a floor test.

The OPS faction had agreed to the merger only on the condition of expelling Sasikala the close acquaintance of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and her nephew TT Dhinakaran, who till recently held the post of deputy general secretary of AIADMK. As the United AIADMK was working to fulfill the conditions, Dhinakaran along with his supports sidelined themselves from the party to form a third front to bring down the ruling government. 19 MLAs issued a no confidence against the ruling Chief Minister and demanded for a floor test, which the Governor tactfully postponed for 2 weeks giving enough time to AIADMK to lure back some of the rebel legislators.

With 19 MLAs supporting Dhinakaran and a 27 more to join his camp it will be a tough task for Palaniswamy to clear the floor test and prove its majority. In this situation, it is being speculated that if the ruling government may fall any time it should not come as surprise to anyone.

Regarding this, MK Stalin, the leader of the opposition party DMK on Saturday morning speaking at the birthday celebrations of a local DMK activist in Mumbai after unveiling a statue of saint-poet Thiruvalluvar in the megapolis, said that his party would never come to power through back door. Stalin added the current government may fall anytime but his party is not hungry for power and hence will not come through the back door because any government cannot be run in such circumstances. and added that the party will not work against the democratic norms.

“There will surely be a change. Whether the government will last a year or months or even days is the issue. If it falls any moment, there should be no surprise,” the DMK leader said.
