Punjab Congress Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu‘s wife and MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Friday seek party’s ticket from Chandigarh Lok Sabha Seat for upcoming Lok Sabha Polls due for April-May 2019. With former MLA making her claim for the seat, the number for contenders for the Congress’s ticket from the Seat has reached three. Former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and ex-Union minister Manish Tewari have also been vying for the ticket from Chandigarh.

Former IB Minister Manish Tewari has on Sunday submitted his application of intent to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Chandigarh parliamentary seat.

Earlier on Friday, Minister’s wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu submitted her application to Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee. Ms Kaur as quoted by PTI said, “I am submitting my application for your consideration to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the constituency of UT Chandigarh. All the record of my work is attached. I hope you will consider my request and give me an opportunity to serve the people of the beautiful city,” she wrote to Pradeep Chhabra, president, Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee.

Reacting on the interest of Tewari and Bansal for eyeing the seats, Ms Kaur, said, “It is the party to decide (on giving ticket). If Pawan Bansal gets it, I will be the first person to help him out.”

On the same tone, Pawan Kumar Bansal, who has represented the constituency four times, exuded confidence that the party high command would repose faith in him and give him the ticket.

“Everybody has the right to apply for a ticket from anywhere. But it is the party high command which finally decides. I am pretty sure that because of my work in Chandigarh, being well versed with the affairs of the city, and the rapport that I have with the people here, the party will certainly repose faith in me and give me the ticket again from here,” he said.

Bansal had consecutively won in 1999, 2004 and 2009, but lost in 2014. He had also represented Chandigarh from 1991 to 1996. Bansal is expected to file his application soon. Currently, Chandigarh seat is represented by BJP MP Kirron Kher.

Another contender, Manish Tewari who had applied for the ticket from the Seat on Sunday refused to comment of Navjot Kaur Sidhu, however, said, ‘every party worker has the right to apply for the ticket, but the party leadership has to take the final decision on it.
