Manpreet Kaur

Asian shot-put champion, Manpreet Kaur who won a gold medal at the recently held Asian Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar has been tested positive for a banned stimulant. This has brought massive disrespect to the country as she might also lose her medal which she won at the Asian Championship held earlier this month. The stimulant for which she tested positive is dimethyl butylamine.

The doping test was conducted by the National Anti-Doping Officials during the Federation Cup National Championships held in Patiala from June 1-4. Though she has not been put under suspension as dimethyl butylamine is a specified substance under the WADA Code, she might have to give back the medal she won in Bhuvneshwar if her urine test sample ‘B’ also returns positive.

According to an Athletics Federation of India official, “Manpreet has tested positive in a test conducted during the Federation Cup in June. Her urine sample has been found to have stimulant dimethyl butylamine.”

Also, Manpreet’s coach Karamjeet, who is her husband as well, said, “we have not yet been told about anything.”

Also, she may be ruled out from the next month’s World Championships to be held in London for which she had already qualified. According to the official, “We have not thought about it (about her World Championships participation). But we cannot lose our face on that big stage. We have to figure out about that.”
