Ravi Shastri is going to be the new head coach of Indian Cricket team. Along with him, Zaheer Khan is going to be the new bowling coach and Rahul Dravid will be the batting coach of India. The three coaches will accompany Indian cricket team on their next tour to Sri Lanka. The new trio is said to be a part of the team until 2019 cricket world cup.
It’s clear that since Anil Kumble resigned from his post as head coach of India, the team was looking for new coach. Amidst this, BCCI discussed on many names which include Virendra Sehwag, Phil Simmons, Tom Moody etc. Finally, the decision came out after a long interview process of five candidates with the cricket advisory committee of India. The selection committee included Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Saurav Ganguly.
It’s been said that Ravi got a tough fight with Sehwag. While Sachin Tendulkar was favouring Shastri for the post of the coach, Ganguly supported Virendra Sehwag. Finally, Shastri’s name was considered after talking on the phone with Virat Kohli. It’s clear that Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri have a good bonding. Earlier Virat Kohli suggested the name of Shastri for the post. He also asked BCCI to discuss on Shastri’s name. It was a good fight between Ravi Shastri and Virendra Sehwag for the post of Indian Coach, but in the end, Shastri’s name was finalised.
Shastri has been a part of the team for a very long time. Earlier he worked as an adviser to the team and later in 2014, became the director of the Indian team. Under his mentorship, the team has played very good cricket in the last couple of years. The team reached the semi-finals of 2015 world cup and won series against Australia in Australia. We hope his partnership with Virat Kohli would surely prove to be a goodwill for the team and help India do good in 2019 world cup.
