The qualification for the Champions Trophy 2025 gets intense as the World Cup group stage gets close to its end.

The World Cup 2023 that has been conducted in India is getting intense as the semifinals are coming close.

Till now, India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and Pakistan have already qualified for the
Champions Trophy.

ICC Champions Trophy

The ICC Champions Trophy started in 1998 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Originally, it was known as the ICC KnockOut Tournament, but later in 2002, its name was changed.

The game follows a round-robin format and also has a few knockout matches.

Teams were reduced in the ICC Champions Trophy as it happens for a short interval of time.

It is also known as the Mini World Cup, but that doesn’t reduce the importance of the ICC World Cup.

In total, eight teams participate in the tournament and are subdivided into two groups of four each.

Two top teams from both groups make it into the next stage, followed by the final match.

Winner of the Trophy

India and Australia have been the most successful nations in the Champions Trophy, winning twice.

The first edition took place in 1998 in Bangladesh, where South Africa played the final against the West Indies and won it.

The second edition was played in Kenya, where New Zealand won the trophy.

In the third edition, Sri Lanka and India were announced as the joint winners.

The almighty West Indies won the championship trophy for the first time in 2004.

Then Australia were the winners for two consecutive editions in 2006 and 2009.

India broke their winning streak as they won the 2013 edition of the cup.

The last edition of the cup was won by Pakistan, as they are also the host nation for this edition.

Fight for qualifications in the Tournament

The teams that end the ICC World Cup in the top eight spots will qualify for the Champions Trophy.

Till now, India is leading the table, followed by South Africa and Australia, as they have also qualified for the semifinals.

Apart from them, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and Pakistan have also qualified.

The fight is between England, the winners of the last World Cup, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.

Two teams out of the four will make it to the trophy.

All of them are at four points right now, and whoever wins their last remaining match and has a better NRR will qualify.
