Kicking off the second leg of the campaign in Meghalaya, Rahul Gandhi addressed a rally in Garobadha of West Garo Hills along with Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, and All India Congress Committee General Secretary CP Joshi.
Gandhi attacked the Modi government for not fulfiling promises and said,
“Four years ago, the people of India reposed their faith in Modi ji and the BJP because of their grand promises. But as the government enters the fag end of its tenure it is clear that instead of giving hope security and economic growth, they have dealt us with only hopelessness, unemployment, fear, hatred and violence.”
“India always celebrated and embraced different people, religions and cultures. This embracing of diversity and difference is the foundational idea of India. But the BJP and RSS don’t like this. They have a set idea of how this country should be, where everything is derived from a ‘past’.
Mr Gandhi said the truth is that the BJP/RSS were afraid of the power of the Indian people. He added that they are afraid of people’s power, and citizens like you. It is this fear that they control us rather than listening to us.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma criticized Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Rajnath Singh had blamed the ruling Congress for the killing of NCP leader Jonathone N Sangma. He added that the government led by Mukul Sangma is not serious about the law and order in the state.
Sangma claimed that the Union government instead of cooperating is withdrawing the security forces in the region.
