Beijing, June 6: China’s telecommunication giant Huawei technology has on Wednesday signed an agreement with Russia’s telecoms MTS firm to develop the next-generation 5G technology in Russia.

According to BBC news reports, the firms will develop the 5G network over the next year in Russia, as per reports. The pact was agreed as Chinese President Xi Jinping kicked-off his official three-day visit to Moscow.

The development has come as some Western allies, which are led by the United States, have barred the Chinese company over concerns that it poses a threat to the country’s security.

According to AFP, in an official statement, the MTS said the pact will oversee “the development of 5G technologies and the pilot launch of fifth-generation networks in 2019 and 2020”.

The deal is expected to offer some relief to Huawei which has come under intense foreign scrutiny in some recent months.

Huawei has on Tuesday said it was willing to ink a “no-spy agreement” with the United States government if the nation is open to provide this opportunity, in response to years of accusations leveled by America and its allies that the Chinese Intelligence Agencies for spying could use Huawei’s product for spying.

In consideration to the fact, the US has been trying urging its European allies, including said nations to cut off its ties with the Chinese firm, Huawei has also offered the same agreements to Germany and the United Kingdom, according to ANI news reports.

Huawei has filed last week a “motion for summary judgment” in its legal lawsuit challenging the US law constitutionality banning its federal agencies from purchasing Huawei products.

The motion urges the court to override a part of the National Defence Authorization Act (NDAA) which forbids federal agencies from using Huawei technology, as well as, ZTE, the smaller China’s rival.

Last year, US President Donald Trump had signaled the NDAA, alleging Huawei’s products posed a threat to national security, as the Chinese authority could make use of Huawei for spying on Americans.
