German foreign minister said that Germany is set to host an international summit on Wednesday, in an effort to support the United Nation’s proposed peace efforts in the war-torn Yemen country.

Anadolu News Agency quoted German foreign minister Heiko Mass as saying: “After the Stockholm consultations and agreements, Germany has invited international partners and key actors to support UN efforts for peace in Yemen.”

The minister said the deal was reached between the Yemen government and Houthis during the talks held last year in December at Stockholm with offering a “real window of opportunity” to make further progress in attaining peace in Yemen.

According to news reported by Yeni Safak newspaper, Mass said: “We must work to make the international community’s support for the upcoming process as constructive and strong as possible. This includes ensuring that further progress is not impeded by a lack of funds or lengthy administrative processes.”

In the Swedish capital on December 13, the Yemen government and the Houthis rebels held talks where both the warring parties reached a ceasefire agreement in vacating the strategic Yemeni port city of Al-Hudaydah.

However, despite their talks, both parties have not yet withdrawn its forces from the region amid accusations on violating the ceasefire. Sanaa, Yemen’s capital, is currently held by the Houthis, who have killed then-President Ali Abdullah Saleh in December 2017.
