Jeremy Corbyn No-Deal Brexit priority

United Kingdom (UK) Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has on Tuesday vowed to back a second referendum on Brexit deal after he came under an overwhelming pressure to cease the departure of its remaining voters who have supported pro-EU political parties at the European Parliamentary elections.

According to The Guardians reports, the Labour chief has stated he was “very carefully” listening to both sides of debate after the party lost its ground to the Greens and fell behind Liberal Democrats.

Corbyn said his Labour Party’s preference would be to hold a general election and if any Brexit deal, it “has to be put to a public vote”. According to several Labour sources, the development was a shift from the previous status that a second vote on Brexit was being taken as an option to halt a damaging Tory Brexit.

Later, he wrote to members of parliament: “It is clear that the deadlock in parliament can now only be broken by the issue going back to the people through a general election or a public vote. We are ready to support a public vote on any deal.”

Corbyn’s statement moves Labour closer towards backing public vote.

In the European elections, the Labour party was left with some 14.6 per cent of votes share and divided its MPs into 10 parts. Overall, Corby’s party fell behind the Liberal Democrats and the Brexit party, coming on the third place, dropping to the fifth position having no MPs in Scotland and falling behind the Plaid Cymru in Wales for the first time in the national polls.
