Islamabad, August 8: Pakistan National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has on Thursday arrested the nation’s opposition leader Maryam Nawaz, a spokesperson from her political party reported.

Vice-president of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) was arrested while she went to visit her father, ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, at a prison in Lahore, according to local media reports.

A PML-N spokesperson, Marriyum Aurangzeb, told Reuters news agency, “Maryam Nawaz has been arrested.”

“NAB arrested her from Lahore and we haven’t been given any reason or grounds for her arrest.”

Maryam, a three-time prime minister of Pakistan, is currently serving her seven-year jail term charged for corruption, according to Al-Jazeera.
