The House of Representatives is currently running an impeachment inquiry against US President Donald Trump. The decision came soon after revelations of a whistleblower complaint against the president had been brought to light.

Accused of blocking an aid package for Ukraine in return for its investigation into Former Vice-President Joe Biden and his son, the House of Representatives had launched a formal impeachment inquiry against the president.

Rudy Giuliani, former Mayor of New York and President Trump’s personal attorney has been served a subpoena by the chairmen of the three main committees of the House of representatives. The committees on Foreign Affairs, Oversight and Intelligence had served the subpoena.

According to the BBC, in the subpoena letter sent to Giuliani by the committee, it also asked the attorney to handover any relevant document he has regarding the investigation.

Giuliani has been a key figure in the scandal after revelations of his meeting with Ukraine officials came to light. The recently released transcripts of the call between the US President and Ukraine President Zelensky also had mentioned the attorney.

The subpoenas sent by the US House of Representatives, show a sign that they are moving forward with the investigations against the president and his alleged abuse of power. The United States is currently undergoing a massive shift in its society which has seen a divide following the hyper-partisan environment that they live in.

Guiliani had earlier in an interview with the CNN said that he had not talked to Ukraine about an investigation against former Vice-President Biden but later admitted that he did talk to the officials about the matter.
