In a letter to the US Congress, the United States President Donald Trump said to the leaders that he has submitted a report related to the administration’s strategy in Syria as required by law.

According to Sputnik news reports, in a letter released by the White House, Trump said, “I have enclosed a report describing the United States Strategy for Syria.” February 22-dated letter was addressed to chairmen of house armed service committee and the US Senate foreign relations panel.

The US president said the move was in regards with section 1221 of the NDAA (National Defence AuthorizationAct) for the fiscal year of 2008 and section 1231 of the 2019 NDAA. The letter also contained no details related to the strategy.

Trump has declared that he had decided to withdraw American troops from Syria in last year’s December, saying that the troops had completely “defeated” the Islamic State in Syria.

The White House, last week, said it would leave about 400 American troops in Syria after the withdrawal of the US forces. White House press secretary Sarah Sander said that around 200 American troops would remain in Syria as part of the small peacekeeping force.

Syrian President Bashar Assad has repeatedly accused Washington of trying to overthrow the country’s leadership and providing support to anti-government militants.
