US President Donald Trump‘s special representative to Ukraine, Kurt Volker has tendered in his resignation. This comes when the United States President is undergoing an investigation by the US Congress for his alleged abuse of power.

According to the allegations against the president, after the elections in Ukraine which saw Volodymyr Zelensky come into power. During the phone call with the Ukrainian President, it is accused that Trump had pressured the president into investigating Joe Biden and his son on corruption charges. Biden had been accused of using his time as the Vice-President to force the Ukrainian authorities to fire the prosecutor general who at the time was investigating a corruption charge against his son.

Hunter Biden had been on a board of the Ukraine based oil company. Trump had used his personal attorney, Rudy Guliani to pressure the Ukrainians to start the investigations.

A whistleblower complaint had been filed against the President to the Intelligence Inspector General. The complaint is being pursued by the US congress which has led to an inquiry for impeachment against Donald Trump.

According to a report in Al Jazeera has said that the resignation is a measure of ‘damage control’ for the impact of the efforts by Rudy Giuliani to press Ukraine to investigate Biden. Volker had been serving in Ukraine since 2017 and was trying to broker a deal with the Russian separatists.
