NITI Aayog, the think-tank of the government of India, has carried out a report on India Innovation Index, according to which Karnataka has topped the ranking, followed by Delhi and Sikkim, reported Mint.

The India Innovation Index of the NITI Aayog, is aimed at examining the innovation capabilities and performance of the Indian states.

Rajiv Kumar, vice chairman of NITI Aayog said that the index will further drive a culture of innovation across Indian states and help create a conducive ecosystem for innovation to flourish across the country.

The report creates an overall framework for the evaluation of the innovation ecosystem of all the 29 states and seven union territories in India.

The states and the UTs are placed according to their index scores, recognise ambits and challenges, and other major factors including human capital, investment, knowledge workers, business environment, safety and legal environment.

“Such an index will not only help states to devise their own strategy for fostering an innovation climate, it will also enable them to benchmark their performance with other states,” Kumar added.
