Tata motors sprung a pleasant surprise for motorheads when it unveiled the fully electric version of Racemo, rechristened as ‘RaceMo +-‘ at the 2018 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. The previous petrol-powered version was unveiled by Tata at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show which turned heads back then. Now again, Tata is grabbing the limelight with the Racemo +- which is a two-seater supercar under 4 meters in length.

The Tata RaceMo is powered by a 1.2 liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which oozes out 186 bhp and 210 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a six-speed AMT gearbox with paddle shifters. Tata claims that the RaceMo is capable of going from xero to 100 kph in about 6 seconds.

The design of RaceMo is a thing to look out for, considering its MOflex structure which enjoins two composites by injecting foam between them. This creates a lightweight and rigid single panel. Panel shaping, sleek headlamps, and wide grille justify its super-car title.

In contrast to its conventional IC engine powered sibling, the Racemo+- comes with lithium battery-powered 200bhp electric motor which, according to the technicians at Tata Motors, can run for 350 km on a single charge. Fast charging is also provided for the battery.

The interior of the RaceMo+- comes fully loaded with three digital displays, dials on the steering wheel and center control. Other features include pull straps for the door, large central A/C vent and red accents for the paddle shifters, making the Racemo+- look like a high-end car in a video game.

Currently, there is no confirmation whether the RaceMo+- will hit the Indian car showrooms. Tata had decided not to put the Racemo which was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last year into production. While the arrival of RaceMo+- gives hope for full-scale production, this sport electric vehicle revving on the streets may still be a mirage.
