Bihar emerges as leading producer of Mushrooms, Honey, Makhana, and Fish, says President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu said Bihar emerged as a leading producer of mushroom, honey, makhana, and fish at the launch of fourth Krishi Road Map (2023-2028) for Bihar on Wednesday. Agriculture is an important part of the folk culture of Bihar, the President said.

She said, It is the basis of Bihar’s economy. Agriculture and allied sectors not only employ almost half of the state’s workforce but also contribute significantly to the state’s GDP. Therefore, all-round development of the agriculture sector is very important.

The President noted that the Government of Bihar has been implementing the Agriculture Road Map since 2008, and it has been successful in increasing the productivity of major crops such as paddy, wheat, and maize.

The President urged farmers of Bihar to take advantage of the rising demand for organic products and adopt climate-resilient agriculture practices. Organic farming can help to reduce the cost of agriculture, conserve the environment, and increase farmers’ income. Climate-resilient agriculture practices can help farmers to cope with the challenges of climate change, such as erratic rainfall and extreme weather events.

The President also emphasized the importance of holistic development to make Bihar a developed state. This means not only focusing on economic growth, but also on other areas such as health, education, and social welfare. She urged the policymakers and people of Bihar to set a road map for the state’s progress and follow it.

The launch of the fourth Krishi Road Map is a significant step towards the development of Bihar’s agriculture sector. By implementing the road map effectively and taking advantage of the emerging opportunities in the agriculture sector, the Government of Bihar can help to make Bihar a more prosperous and sustainable state.

She expressed that Bihar’s contribution is crucial for realizing the vision of a prosperous India. However, achieving this vision requires breaking free from narrow-minded thinking created by humans. The only viable option for transforming Bihar into a developed state is comprehensive development. It is essential for policymakers and the people of Bihar to establish a clear path for the state’s advancement and diligently follow it.

She also mentioned her satisfaction with the implementation of the agriculture roadmap in Bihar. Nevertheless, her greatest joy would come from witnessing Bihar consistently advancing in every aspect of development, whether it’s in areas such as healthcare, education, per capita income, or the Happiness Index.
