Redmi 6A

After spending over a month in closed beta testing, the stable global Android Pie update for the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A is now finally here. The update brings the software version to V10.4.1.0.PCBMIXM, is 1.3GB in size, and also includes July 2019 security patches.

Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A were originally launched with Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9.1 on top and were eventually updated to MIUI 10, but without Android 9 Pie on board. This latest stable update is still based on MIUI 10 but the underlying platform version has now been updated to Android Pie.

What’s new in MIUI 10 Update :

In terms of improvements, the update adds MIUI’s system-wide dark mode under the display settings, and you can now use face unlock as an app lock method.

Alongside the update, Xiaomi has also released the updated kernel source code for both devices on its Github. This should aid in the development of custom kernels and the porting of Pie-based ROMs.

How to get the MIUI 10 Update :

The Android Pie update has begun rolling out to the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A users globally. If you can’t wait for the update rollout, you can manually update your device. To flash the update package: Navigate to Settings > About Phone > System update and select “Choose update package” from the three-dot menu – if you don’t see the update package option, tap on the MIUI 10 logo 10 times. From there, select the update package you downloaded and then proceed.
